If you are just using a modeler only into cab rig, I’d say a really good SS power amp with good power amp emulation is the way to go Unless you just love tweaking. I like the Fractal devices best by far because you can actually change the speaker loading behavior and other deep power amp characteristics when using an amplifier 4CM or preamp. 1 2 3 petergreeny Supporting Member Messages 126 41 Purchased the Boss Tube Amp Expander three weeks ago and have put it through the paces in my studio. I dislike most modelers without any of their emulation at low volume even through a tube power amp. Modernize the Tube Amp Experience Bringing together a diverse range of professional tone tools for the very first time, the Waza Tube Amp Expander elevates. Tube amps can add way too much ‘whomp’ if you cannot control the the power amp emulation/etc but SS amps will sound thin. I have probably owned maybe 8 or 9 SS power amps of various flavors including home made board amps and a bunch of tube power amps and heads.įor modern modelers, tube power is honestly hit and miss. I have a PS2 and SYN5050 also, which are tube power amps, the synergy stuff, does seem to want some kind of tube power to be amplified with a cab. You can run a 180W tube power amp at conversation levels with a modeler.Īre you adding more tube amps or something? The synergy stuff kills direct, it doesn’t really need a power amp other than emulator like Wall of Sound etc, unless you are amplifying. Modeling/preamp rigs have multiple master volumes. An attenuator is pretty worthless For that amp.Īlso, if you don’t need attenuation why are you looking at attenuators? The SLO has a slave out so you just need a dummy load for the transformer. The modeler or preamp’s level control acts as a second master volume. Why not use your SLO30? I use mine all the time with my Synergy rig. Tonally, did you prefer one over the other?Ĭlick to expand.I am assuming you are not going FRFR. So I’m curious what people think of both, used with these types of setups. (And getting tube tone in the modeling chain, if that matters) The Boss TAE though generally appears to be considered the Cadillac in this space, despite being solid state power. The Fryette is tube power, so that seems cool, especially since that would create an all tube chain when using Synergy. (Which I suppose is sorta one and the same) But, I’m curious about everyone’s opinions of these that have used one or both with a modeler/Synergy module, out to a guitar cab. (PS100 or PS2)Įxcluding additional feature sets they offer, everything online tends to skew to their attenuation abilities, but I’m looking at these as powering solutions. Both are cab simulators, attenuators, and a whole heap mor. I need to get a power amp to run both through, which inevitably leads to the Boss Tube Amp Expander or a Fryette. THE SHOWDOWN IS HERE Today we put the new BOSS Waza Tube Expander against the Universal Audio Ox. Working on building out a setup for a modeler (Helix, Kemper, or Neural QC) and a Synergy module, running out to my guitar cab.
